Relations with a non-Muslim

Question

What is the ruling on friendship with a Hindu? Is it permissible or not? That is, establishing friendship with a Hindu who causes Muslims no harm of any kind, and this friendship with him has been going on for a very long time — what is the ruling of the Shari‘a on maintaining friendship with him?

Answer

Because he lives in the same village or neighbourhood, or for some other need, it is permissible to treat him with good character and to keep up social contact with him.
