Employment for the sake of one’s parents
Question
Zayd works at an elementary religious school out of obedience to his parents, but there he falls into sin — namely, looking with lust at certain beardless youths (amrad). Then he repents, but then the same act occurs again. Now he is certain that he ought to leave the job. The question is: is the job necessary for the sake of obeying his parents, or should he leave it? And what about staying with his spiritual guide?
Answer
The job in itself is not a sin; however, in this job there are inducements to sin, because of which he falls into it. And most probably he has become habituated to sins, so wherever he goes he will find a way for his habit. On the other hand, most probably his parents too do not intend this particular job; rather, their aim is ease of expenses and earning an income.
