A father’s wrong opinion is not to be acted upon
Question
I am now eleven years old. Three years ago I came to my teacher in Chandpur. My teacher asked me the following questions, and I had no answer to them other than “no.” He asked me: do you remember the kalima or not? (2) Do you know how to pray or not? (3) Which madhhab are you of? I did not know these things, because I only knew that I was born in a Muslim household and knew nothing else; nor did I know what zakat is, what sadaqa is, who the Prophet ﷺ is.
Answer
The teacher’s advice is entirely in accordance with the Shari‘a, and it is what should be acted upon. The father’s opinion is wrong and contrary to the Shari‘a; acting upon it is not permissible. Do not run away anywhere, nor act against the Shari‘a on your father’s opinion, nor show insolence and disrespect towards your father’s dignity.
