How to treat a father who does not acknowledge his son as his son
Question
Question: Zayd was born in his own home. Through his father’s negligence, the condition of his mother and of himself became very critical, so his maternal uncle took them to his own home, and after a few days his mother passed away to Allah. After that his father did not inquire about him at all. His maternal uncle had him educated and married him off, but his father did not give a single paisa (a small copper coin, a fraction of a rupee).
Answer
If the father does not keep Zayd with him and he lives a hundred miles away, there is no harm in that. Let him serve him from time to time according to his means; let him not be distressed by his father’s saying “I have no son,” and let him keep making supplications; and from time to time, when the opportunity arises, let him also visit him.
