What to do if one’s mother is displeased

Question

My mother is displeased with me for the reason that she keeps giving me (?) expenses for my studies; she loves money very much and urges bribery and the like, contrary to Islam. She says to me: “Do not show me your face.” I am content with that; I go to her out of fear of God. If, hearing filthy words, I separate myself from her, will it not be disobedience to Allah?

Answer

Go to serve her, serve her physically as well, and also take her some gifts and presents — something of the season too, sometimes clothing, sometimes shoes — and offer her whatever she likes. Also pray to Allah Most Pure that He remove aversion from your mother’s heart and create love. In sha’ Allah ta‘ala, within some time a good change will come about.
