A wife who earns herself taunting her husband
Question
There are two, a husband and a wife, burdened with a family. The husband engages in trade and labour — shopkeeping or wage labour; the wife too keeps animals and the like, their care (?) is her responsibility, and it is she who takes them to graze in the forest. Woman and man both earn shoulder to shoulder. When this woman quarrels with her husband she uses extremely harsh words, for example: “Do I eat your earnings? I earn myself, and only then do I eat,” and so on. Is the woman sinful or not?
Answer
For the woman to use such words is insolence and disrespect; therefore it is necessary for her to exercise the utmost caution and guard her tongue. Great emphasis on the rights of the husband has come in the hadith. Therefore it is not right to say any word contrary to honouring the husband or to taunt him.
