Writing an amulet with blood
Question
Question: If, with the blood of a bird and the like, such as a rooster or a pigeon, the names of Satan are written, made into a wick and burnt in order to remove the influence of jinn and the like, will this be permissible or not? Likewise, if a Qur’anic verse is written with the blood of a goose and made into an amulet, what will the ruling be?
Answer
Respect for letters is also required in the Shari‘a, even if a contemptible name results from their combination: [ar]«إذا كتب اسم فرعون أو كتب أبو جهل على غرض يكره أن يرموه إليه، لأن لتلك الحروف الحرمة، كذا في السراجية»[/ar] “If the name of Pharaoh, or ‘Abu Jahl’, is written on a target, it is makruh to shoot at it, because those letters have sanctity (hurma).
