Amulets and incantatory practices
Question
Question: (1) A man lives in our neighbourhood who writes and hands out amulets: some amulets he writes with saffron, some with the blood of a white rooster, and some with onion juice; and he is not an ‘alim (scholar). Is it right for him to do this? (2) There is a book, “‘Amaliyyat wa Ta‘widhat” (“Practices and Amulets”), in which all kinds of benefits are described — for example, an ‘amal (practice)
Answer
(1) If he knows this art, it is right; but if he deceives or writes things involving shirk (associating partners with Allah), he is a sinner. (2) Whatever ‘amal you wish to perform, write it out and ask about it; I do not have that book.
