Does an amulet have any effect?
Question
Question: Is it permissible to believe that one’s aims concerning harm and benefit are fulfilled through using the permissible practice of a practitioner of incantations, that is, an amulet and the like? Or is it correct in the Shari‘a to seek the fulfilment of one’s aims through the Sunna way and supplication (du‘a)?
Answer
True benefit and harm lie in the control and power of Allah. However, just as Allah Most High has placed an effect in food and medicine, He has likewise placed an effect in amulets; but to imagine anything to be the owner of benefit and harm the way the Lord Most High is, is impermissible. Relying on supplication (du‘a) alone is a lofty station for whoever is granted it.
