Writing an amulet with a rooster’s blood
Question
Question: Is it permissible to write an amulet with a rooster’s blood or not? Hazrat Thanawi ﵋ wrote in “Bayaz-e Ya‘qubi” (“Ya‘qub’s Notebook”), p. 194, that it is impermissible, while in “Shami”, vol. 1 (Egyptian edition), p. 194, it is written that for a nosebleed it is permissible to write Surah al-Fatiha or al-Ikhlas on the forehead, and that this, with them, is the position on which fatwa is given (mufta bihi). Which is the correct view in this matter?
Answer
In “Fatawa Rashidiyya” (vol. 3, p. 95, Kitab al-Hazr wa’l-Ibaha), writing Qur’anic verses and divine names with an impurity is declared haram; however, just as uttering a word of disbelief is mubah in a state of dire necessity (idtirar), so too there is permission for this, while not doing this act and dying is better.
