The use of a watch by men and women

Question

Question: Are men and women equal with regard to the use of a wristwatch or not? If not, then why? Kindly write with reference to reliable books, and may you be rewarded by Allah.

Answer

Where they are in common use among both men and women and there is no distinction for anyone, there the ruling for both is the same. And where they are specific to men and women do not generally use them, there it is impermissible for women, because a prohibition has come in the noble hadith against women imitating (tashabbuh) men. So it is in al-Mishkat, p. 380.
