What is the ruling on wearing a watch on the wrist?

Question: In Islam things other than silver are haram. So what is the ruling on the watch that we use? Everything in it is of iron?

Answer

If the watch is not tied on the wrist as an ornament but is for seeing the time, as indeed it has been made for this very purpose, then it is not forbidden, just as wearing and putting on an iron helmet, a sword and a coat of mail is not forbidden, because that is not an ornament but a necessity.
