A gold or silver ring

Question

Is it permissible in the Sharia to make a ring and buttons of gold and silver, or is it forbidden? If it is permissible, how much gold and silver is permissible for a man and for a woman?

Answer

Making a ring of gold and silver is correct according to the Sharia; however, a man is permitted only a silver ring, and that too less than one mithqal. For a woman there is no restriction: gold is also permitted to her, and in weight too she may wear as much as she wishes.
