Using flower garlands and bracelets
Question
Making garlands of flowers and flower bracelets and the like and wearing them on the hands and neck out of fondness, or making them round and putting them on; and for women to make a garland of flowers and put it in the braid and the like — what is the ruling? We want to know whether the use of flowers is permissible or not.
Answer
For men neither a garland nor a flower bracelet is permitted; however, taking them in the hand and keeping them with oneself for the fragrance is permitted. Women may use gold and silver necklaces and other jewellery for adornment; they may also use flower garlands. Caution: women should not go out of the house with a strongly scented fragrance and pass near non-mahrams.
