A silk jubba
Question
Question: A gentleman had a jubba (a long outer robe) made of “lady minton” (a trade name of a silk-like fabric) and presented it to the imam; it also has some gold or silver braid work on it. On the neck band, apparently, there is only “lady minton” — it is called silk cloth, but I think that in reality it is not silk. In such a case, is there any harm in using it?
Answer
Silk clothing is not permissible for a man; if it is not silk, it is fine, provided that it is not a distinctive mark (shi‘ar) of kafirs or of the fasiqs.
