Admixture of wine in doctors’ (Western) medicines
Question
Question: I have heard from a Muslim doctor that all English (Western) medicines that are taken by drinking certainly contain an admixture of wine. In that case, is doctors’ treatment and the use of English medicines permissible for Muslims according to the pure Shari‘a or not?
Answer
If it is verified by Shari‘a-valid proof that there is wine in a halal (?) medicine, then drinking it is not proper; without verification, a ruling of prohibition will not be passed.
