The ruling on the goonch fish

Question

Question: Regarding a fish which in our language is called “goonch” (a local name of a fish, probably a large river catfish) and which is before your eyes — please inform us of the Shari‘a ruling on it.

Answer

We have examined this fish. It is undoubtedly a fish and not some other animal. According to the Shari‘a it is permissible.
