Keeping pigeons for food or trade

Question: What is the status of keeping pigeons? If a person keeps pigeons for food or for trade, is this permissible or not?

Answer

Keeping pigeons for food and for trade is permissible. Care should be taken to feed them and give them water; they should not be kept hungry and thirsty, and one should not engage in pigeon-flying games (flying pigeons for sport and contests).
