Eating squirrels

Question: Is it permissible to eat squirrels or not?

Answer

The squirrel is called “mush-i khurma” (lit. “date mouse”) in Persian and “fa’rat al-nakhl” (palm mouse) in Arabic. It is stated in “Hayat al-Hayawan”: [ar]فأرة بجميع أنواعه بالإجماع حرام[/ar] “The mouse, in all its kinds, is haram by consensus (ijma‘).”
