Having a cow covered by a bull released in the name of other than Allah
Question
Question: Hindus release bulls and buffaloes in the name of other than Allah, that is, in the name of Ram, Shiva, a saint’s shrine (?) and the like. Is eating such an animal proper for Muslims or not? And is it proper for Muslims to have their cows, buffaloes and the like covered by this bull, which is dedicated in the name of other than Allah, or not? If eating it is not proper, then how will having (cows) covered by it and producing offspring be proper?
Answer
An animal released in the name of other than Allah is haram; eating it is by no means permissible. If a cow or the like is covered (by it) and gives birth, that offspring is not carrion. Buying and selling dead frogs, crabs, jackals and human hair is impermissible. The money of their price is also impermissible. Selling snake skin after tanning (dibagha) is permissible.
