Invitations involving non-Muslims
Question
Question: If Hindus invite one to meals on occasions of a wedding or of mourning, is it permissible to accept the invitation at their place and to eat or not? Likewise, is it permissible for Muslims to invite Hindus on occasions of a wedding or of mourning or not? Kindly write a complete answer with proofs.
Answer
This belongs to the category of mutual dealings (mu‘amalat): just as buying, selling and transactions are permissible, so too inviting and eating are permissible, provided there is some need prompting it (that is, mixing and keeping ties with these people without necessity is makruh) and that the food is pure.
