Attending a gathering of sinfulness
Question
Question: Zayd avoids sin and depravity (fisq wa fujur) everywhere, and he does not take part in invitations where there is singing and the like. If somewhere, at the time of eating, that sin and depravity is not present, and the hosts say, “We will have singing and music afterwards,” or no one says so but there is complete certainty of it — should such a person eat at the invitation there or not?
Answer
If Zayd is one whom people follow (muqtada), he should keep away from such an invitation; if he is an ordinary person (‘ami), there is latitude. But if it is thought that for the sake of his participation those people will abandon the sin and depravity, then Zayd should take the utmost care over it.
