Nineteen Questions Concerning the Shi‘a

Question

(1) When was Mu‘awiya’s ﵁ birthday? What was his father’s name? Was Mu‘awiya a Companion of the Messenger ﷺ? What does [the name] “Mu‘awiya” mean? (2) What benefit did the Messenger ﷺ derive from marriage to Umm al-Mu’minin, Lady ‘A’isha ﵂? Where is the grave of Lady ‘A’isha ﵂? (3) You people accept ijma‘ (the consensus of the Umma). Just tell us: where is the ijma‘ in the battle of Karbala? (4) Can you prove, on the basis of the pattern of their lives, that all three caliphs were clean and spotless? (5)

Answer

The way of the Ahl al-Sunna wa’l-Jama‘a is established from the Qur’an and Hadith. Of the matters listed in the question, some things are entirely wrong and baseless, and some have no bearing whatsoever on whether a school of thought is right or wrong.
