The Ruling on Those Who Hold That the Qur’an Has Forty Parts

Question

This Holy Qur’an, the Glorious Furqan, consists of a complete thirty parts (juz’). But one sect says that the Qur’an was revealed in forty parts in all: thirty parts are manifest, and ten hidden parts are in the breasts of the shaykhs, passed down from breast to breast. What is the ruling on this? If it is false, what should this group be called?

Answer

This sect regards the Holy Qur’an as distorted; it has no faith in the Qur’an. And since it does not even possess the complete Qur’an, it is not even of the People of the Book (Ahl al-Kitab).
