The Participation of the Companions ﵃ in the Funeral of Hazrat Fatima ﵂

Question

In the preparation and shrouding (tajhiz wa takfin) of the Messenger of God ﷺ and of Hazrat Fatima ﵂ no one took part except the Commander of the Faithful ‘Ali ﵁ and ‘Abbas ﵁. Is this correct? If it is correct, what is the reason for it? [ar]چون صحابه حُبِّ دنیا داشتند ٭ مصطفیٰ را بی کفن انداختند[/ar] “Since the Companions bore love for the world ٭ they cast Mustafa aside without a shroud.” Were Sayyida Khatun-i Jannat (the Lady of Paradise)

Answer

The preparation and shrouding of anyone is customarily done by the members of the family; but in carrying the bier, performing the [funeral] prayer and burial all the others also take part. To interpret this as rancour is the work of rancorous people. Hazrat ‘Ali ﵁ was an immense devotee of the two Shaykhs ﵄ — what place has rancour there?
