Buying land and property in another’s name
Question
Question: My nephew (my sister’s son) Muhammad Ikram was two and a half years old when his father’s shadow was lifted from over his head, and my sister brought him to me, that is, to her parental home. His upbringing and nurture took place in my house, and all the expenses and so on remained my responsibility. At first my nephew’s habits and character had gone quite bad, but I kept praying for him that Allah Most High set my nephew on the straight path. Allah Most High accepted my prayer.
Answer
Since you handed your business over to your nephew and told him in clear words that all of this is yours, all that business, the money obtained from it and the property bought with it, in whosever name it was bought, is all your property; it is neither the nephew’s property nor his wife’s.
