Asking the Occupant of a Grave for Du‘a
Question
May a visitor to the graveyard address the occupant of a grave and say: “O occupant of the grave, ask Allah ﷻ for our forgiveness”? A certain religious scholar says that this practice is established by a noble hadith.
Answer
Presenting oneself at the Rawda (tomb) of the Noble Prophet ﷺ and requesting du‘a in this manner is established; but elsewhere, going to some grave and addressing some occupant of a grave in this way is not established. As for the hadith by which this is argued for — until it is put before us, what can be said about it?
