Ash of Incense Sticks from a Shrine

Question

At most shrines the ash of incense sticks is handed out under the name “sacred ash”. Is it permissible to give and to take it?

Answer

Burning incense sticks on a grave is forbidden, and regarding their ash as tabarruk (a source of blessing) is worse still.
