Handshake After Fajr and ‘Asr

Question

Zayd says that shaking hands (musafaha) after the Fajr prayer is not permissible, and that it is established neither from the Sihah Sitta (the six authentic collections) nor from the word and practice of Imam Abu Hanifa ﵀. Zayd also says that this was the practice neither of the Prophet ﷺ nor of the majority of the ulama, nor is it established from their practice; he says the same about the handshake after the ‘Asr prayer: it is not permissible.

Answer

The encouragement of musafaha and its merit are present in the hadiths; in this respect it is an Islamic act, and it should be performed according to the guidance of Islam itself. The Sacred Law has appointed its time as the time of the beginning of a meeting; it has not appointed for it a time after any prayer.
