Eid Greetings on Returning from the Eidgah
Question
On returning from the Eidgah (the place of the Eid prayer) Muslims meet one another with the utmost love and sincerity and shake hands. What is the status of this act? Or, what is the proof of its being a bid‘a?
Answer
The Eid greeting of shaking hands and embracing is baseless; ‘Allama Shami ﵀ has written that it is a distinctive mark of the Rafidis. It is an ugly bid‘a (bid‘a qabiha), and abandoning it is necessary. To congratulate one another with these words, however: [ar]تَقَبَّلَ اللهُ مِنَّا وَمِنْكُمْ[/ar] “May Allah accept from us and from you!” — is correct.
