Eid Embraces
Question
Is embracing (mu‘anaqa) after the Eid prayer permissible or not — whether done as a custom or with the idea that it is sunna? If it is impermissible or a bid‘a, then, should there be a danger of great mischief (haraj ‘azim) from stopping it, should one stop it or not? And if one does it with the thought that by meeting breast to breast love will be born in the hearts, malice and envy will be removed and there will be good relations among people — what is the ruling?
Answer
Embracing on the two Eids is a distinctive mark (shi‘ar) of the Rafidis; it should be avoided altogether. And while keeping malice and envy in the heart, the breast will by no means be cleansed merely by embracing on the Eid.
