Tawassul in Du‘a

Question

Recently I read the following three statements: (1) Hazrat Mujaddid Alf-i Thani ﵀ forbids kissing graves, but considers it permissible to seek help from the inhabitants of the graves. (2) The tawassul (seeking a means of approach to Allah) that is established by the hadiths is that one supplicates Allah ﷻ: “By the blessing (baraka) of such-and-such accepted servant of Yours, fulfil this need of mine” (Islah al-Rusum, by Hakim al-Ummat, p. 135). (3)

Answer

If that saint is such that there is proof of his sainthood (wilaya), then there is room also for supplicating in this way: “O Allah, by the grace of, or through the tawassul of, this special servant of Yours accept my supplication” — however, it is more appropriate and more cautious not to make any specification.
