How Many Prophets Were There?
Question
How many prophets were sent in the world from Hazrat Adam ﵇ to Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ? Is their count given in the Qur’an and hadith or not?
Answer
The names of a few prophets occur in the Qur’an and hadith; in some narrations the number of prophets is given as one hundred and twenty-four thousand, as Mulla ‘Ali al-Qari and others have written. Without fixing the count, it is necessary to believe in everyone whom Allah the Pure has sent as a prophet.
