The Number of the Prophets

Question

How many prophets in all came to this world? The correct number could not be ascertained. If confirmation of the correct number is established from some book, kindly write the name of that book and the reference.

Answer

The number is not mentioned in any verse of the Qur’an. From some narrations it is estimated that about one hundred and twenty-five thousand came; the number cannot be fixed with certainty. This is what appears from “Sharh al-Fiqh al-Akbar”, “Sharh al-Maqasid”, “Sharh al-‘Aqa’id”, “Mirqat” (the commentary on “Mishkat”), and other works.
