A vow for an easy childbirth
Question
Question: When his wife became pregnant, Zayd made this vow: “If the birth goes well, then in joy at it I will give a rigid neck-ring ornament.” Zayd’s mother-in-law also made exactly the same vow. Zayd’s wife gave birth without any danger. Should Zayd fulfil the vow, or Zayd’s mother-in-law? Or both?
Answer
It is necessary for both of them to fulfil the vow, because of the words of Allah Most High: [ar]وَلْيُوفُوا۟ نُذُورَهُمْ[/ar] “…and let them fulfil their vows…” (Surah al-Hajj, 22:29).
