An animal dedicated in the name of other than Allah
Question
Question: Is it permissible or not to slaughter in the manner prescribed by the Shari‘a and eat a goat or the like that was released in the name of other than Allah?
Answer
If the owner repents of his intention and then slaughters it himself, or sells it to someone, or simply gives it as a gift (hiba), then it is valid. If the owner did not repent but kept it released, and someone slaughtered it, then this is not permissible, even if he slaughtered it saying “Bismillah”.
