The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear, and between them are doubtful matters that many people do not know. Whoever guards against the doubtful matters protects his religion and his honor.”

Vanillin, ethyl vanillin — is it halal?

Description

Vanillin is the main aroma compound of vanilla. About 80 % of the world’s vanillin is made by chemical synthesis (from eugenol, guaiacol, lignin), the rest by biosynthesis: fermentation by microorganisms (wild-type and recombinant) from ferulic acid, eugenol, lignin, glucose; such vanillin counts as “natural” in the EU and the US. One described recombinant route (yeasts, from glucose)
