Description

Brilliant Blue FCF is a synthetic triarylmethane dye: 2-formylbenzenesulphonic acid + N-ethyl-N-(3-sulphobenzyl)aniline → condensation → leuco base → oxidation with chromium or manganese compounds → sodium salt. The sources name no animal raw material in the synthesis.

Basis of the ruling

Brilliant Blue FCF is a synthetic triarylmethane colour. It is made from 2-formylbenzenesulphonic acid and N-ethyl-N-(3-sulphobenzyl)aniline — petrochemical products — with oxidants (chromium or manganese compounds); common salt and sodium sulphate remain in the powder.
