Basis of the ruling

Ponceau 4R is a synthetic azo colour; the name "cochineal red A" refers to its colour — it has nothing to do with the cochineal insect. It is made from naphthionic acid and G-acid (2-naphthol-6,8-disulphonic acid) — petrochemical products; common salt and sodium sulphate remain in the powder.
