The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear, and between them are doubtful matters that many people do not know. Whoever guards against the doubtful matters protects his religion and his honor.”

Caffeine — is it halal?

Description

Caffeine (1,3,7-trimethylxanthine) is an alkaloid of coffee, tea and guarana. Food and pharmacy caffeine is either synthetic (GB 14758: from chloroacetic or cyanoacetic acid; industrially the dimethylurea route; c1) or natural — a by-product of decaffeinating coffee and tea (dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, CO2, water; carbon as sorbent; c2, c3); they are chemically identical and cannot be told apart by the label.
