Beef fat (tallow) — is it halal?

Ruling: Haram

Description

Beef fat is cattle adipose tissue (raw suet) and the fat rendered from it: premier jus (oleo stock) — low-heat rendering of fresh heart, caul, kidney and mesentery fat; edible tallow (dripping) — from fatty tissue, muscles and bones of cattle and/or sheep. In another food, refined fat may be designated “animal fat” in the EU and the EAEU.

Basis of the ruling

Beef fat is the fatty tissue of cattle (suet) and the fat rendered from it (premier jus, edible tallow). Rendering only separates the fat from the tissue — the fat remains the same fat, its essence does not change.
