The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear, and between them are doubtful matters that many people do not know. Whoever guards against the doubtful matters protects his religion and his honor.”

Yeast extract — is it halal?

Description

Yeast extract is the water-soluble content of yeast cells (amino acids, peptides, nucleotides): the cells are broken by their own enzymes (autolysis), salt, ethyl acetate or ethanol (plasmolysis), added enzymes or acid, the insoluble walls are separated and the solution is dried. The raw material is baker's yeast (c1) and, per the Tao 2023 review, mainly spent brewer's yeast after beer fermentation (c2, c7).
