Using things given “lillah” (for Allah’s sake) for salaries

Question

Sums or items received under the name of voluntary charity, the expiation (kaffara) for an oath, or the expiation for zihar — may they be given towards salaries or not?

Answer

It is necessary to make someone entitled to zakat the owner of the sums of the expiation for an oath and the expiation for zihar. Giving them in the salaries of teachers is not permissible; otherwise the expiation will not be discharged. Grain and the like that comes in under this head has the same ruling.
