Arranging a monthly journal with zakat money

Question

Someone gives zakat money to the office of some journal with the intention that the journal be delivered for a year to some destitute poor person or to a student. Will the zakat be discharged, and what is the ruling on doing so?

Answer

To the extent of the value of the journal that reaches the poor person, the zakat will be discharged. Doing this amounts to appointing the office as one’s agent (wakil): (as if saying to it,) “First sell us your journal, then, acting as our wakil, give that journal to such-and-such a person”; or else, having bought (the journal)
