Giving zakat to one who collects donations for a girl’s wedding

Question

In view of present-day customs and traditions, thousands of rupees are spent nowadays on a girl’s wedding. Now a person who is not an owner of the nisab becomes an owner of the nisab by gathering donations for the wedding, or he was already an owner of the nisab beforehand but, despite this, asks for donations to complete the wedding arrangements — is it correct to give him zakat funds?

Answer

It is not correct for him to ask for donations, nor for others to give him zakat in this state: [ar]لِأَنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِمَصْرِفٍ لِلزَّكَاةِ كَمَا فِي كُتُبِ الْفِقْهِ[/ar] “For he is not a recipient of zakat, as in the books of fiqh.”
