Taking zakat for Hajj

Question

If someone is going for Hajj and his money falls short, is it permissible to give him zakat money or not?

Answer

For one whose means are insufficient, it is not permissible to take zakat money for Hajj. But if the money was sufficient and he set out, and then some mishap occurred on the way so that the money was lost, and there is no way to have money sent from home, then it is correct for him to take zakat money there to the extent of need.
