Dar al-harb, and giving zakat and charity to a harbi

Question

What is India? Also, are the Hindus harbis (people of dar al-harb), or what are they? And in either case, is it permissible to give sadaqat al-fitr to Hindus or not?

Answer

There has long been a difference of opinion regarding India. The respected Hazrat Shah ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ﵀, the Muhaddith of Delhi, and the respected Hazrat Shah Muhammad Isma‘il Shahid of Delhi ﵀ declared it dar al-harb (the abode of war)
