Zakat on Company Shares

Question

Is zakat wajib on the shares of the above-mentioned companies or not? If it is wajib, will it be wajib on both the principal and the profit?

Answer

Upon the completion of a full year (hawl), zakat becomes wajib according to the Shari‘a. Zakat should be paid by adding the profit to the principal as well.
