Zakat When Gold and Silver Are Held Together

Question

If a person has sixty or seventy tolas (a unit of weight, ≈ 11.66 g) of silver and two tolas or one tola of gold, should the zakat on the gold be given by weighing it as silver, or should zakat be given by assessing the value of the gold?

Answer

The value of the gold should be assessed, that value added to the silver, and zakat given.
