A Holiday on the Day of ‘Ashura

Question

Should Islamic madrasas observe a holiday on the day of ‘Ashura or not? Is there a holiday at Dar al-‘Ulum Deoband for the ten days of Muharram or not?

Answer

There is no holiday on ‘Ashura of Muharram at Dar al-‘Ulum Deoband. Islamic madrasas and elementary schools should not observe a holiday on it.
